Hardware guide
What you need to run checkout and print tags. No guessing.
Recommended scanner
Use a USB barcode scanner that works like a keyboard (plug-and-play). No extra software. Plug it in, and when you scan, the code appears in the barcode field — same as typing.
No software required. It types into the barcode field.
Recommended printer
You can print tag sheets from Consignment Cat as PDFs and use any printer. A laser or inkjet printer with plain paper works. For sticky labels, use a thermal label printer that accepts the same sheet size as your PDF.
Minimum setup per register
- Laptop
- Scanner (USB, keyboard wedge)
- Printer (optional at the register — you can print tags ahead of time)
- Power strip
- Backup extension cord
Backup plan
If the scanner stops working, you can type barcode numbers into the checkout field by hand. If the internet goes out, sales are saved on your device and sync when you’re back online. For account or billing questions, use the contact option in the app or email support.
- Scanner fails: Manual barcode entry in the tag code field.
- Internet fails: Transactions are stored locally and sync when connection returns.
